Led by watercolor artist Anne Kupillas and designer and urban sketcher Charles Leon, this workshop will be held outside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and will demonstrate how to paint an oceanscape with a definite foreground, middle ground, and background. Workshop participants will learn how to “see” the scene with a critical artist’s eye, and then compose their sketch. The leaders will take you through small studies for value and composition, and then guide you through the steps of drawing the scene and continue to a successful finished watercolor painting. This workshop emphasizes sketching, composition, value, color, light and shadow, and the pros and cons of creating art on location. This will be a casual and informative workshop! Participants will leave with at least one finished sketch or painting, as well as smaller studies, and a better appreciation for on location sketching. Please bring your favorite supplies for painting or drawing outside; a suggested list of supplies will be provided upon registration. For those new to sketching and watercolor painting, a supply kit can be purchased for an additional $18. One glass of wine or beer and snacks are included in the price of the workshop.
